Obviously, you would loose unsaved modifications of the current design, but there is a trick to avoid data loss: If you plug in a USB memory stick, exporting (instead of saving) the design doesn't require any In-App purchase: Just select the machine type "Other" and you can use any file format and any folder - as long as it's located on an external storage. Then restart your Mac and I'm confident the purchase is possible (if your internet works).
