Multiple app windows

On IpadOS 26, using the Files app to view a directory of patterns, if I touch each pattern in the list, StitchBuddy pops up a small window showing an image of the final pattern, but the windows remain open in the background. Is there a way to prevent multiple windows from being opened automatically? I can close them individually but I can't just close all StitchBuddy windows at once.

haysfamily6b This is the default behavior of iPadOS for “Windowed Apps“ when working with apps supporting multiple windows. You can switch to “Fullscreen Apps” in the system settings for multitasking if you prefer the working style before iPadOS 26.

Here is an Apple article with some details about multitasking, especially the option to close all windows after swiping to the home screen might be helpful (if it’s disabled you need to swipe twice to close all windows).
