Auto save?

I was trying to change a design today on an IPad by duplicating it in the hoop. I didn’t like how it came out, and just wanted to close it, but it had saved the changes and now I have a second copy sitting offset on the original. I didn’t think that Stitch Buddy autosaved, so did I do something without realising it?

I forgot to mention the probably most important point: If you hadn‘t exited the design you could have undone the duplication - like any other modification - by using the „Undo“ toolbar item. This works back for the last 10 changes…

I‘m sorry to say … but yes, you did: On iOS and iPadOS StitchBuddy HD is autosaving changes, and due to its criticality a corresponding warning is shown when opening a design. Currently, this warning is shown only once, but maybe I need to change it, requiring a user interaction to be disabled…

I‘m not a fan of autosaving, and on macOS it could have been avoided in the app design. Unfortunately, that‘s very difficult (if not almost impossible) on iOS, where apps might be closed automatically by the system when running in background…

Matthias Sadly I was using the arrow keys to move the copied elements so I went way over 10.

I have just opened a few random designs and I’m not seeing a warning that it will auto save. I think it would be helpful if a warning needed user interaction before being disabled, at least it wold be helpful for me!

The app version is not relevant for this situation - but thanks for mentioning…

But if you were using the arrow keys for alignments - are you talking about StitchBuddy on Mac (you mentioned an iPad)? Just asking because on Macs "Undo" has no limit and no autosaving. Sorry, I'm just getting confused 🙂

Matthias I have the Magic Keyboard for the iPad, so that's how I was using the arrows.

It's good to know that the Mac has no undo limit though. And amazingly, as I went through my "stitch buddy creations" folder today, I found that one of my untitled*.jef was in fact the same design that I overwrote, all I need to do is combine a couple of the colours and I'm good to go. That was a stroke of luck.

OMG 🙂 I never considered a keyboard connected to your iPad, my bad! I‘m glad your design is back again, and I‘ll consider making the „autosave“ warning more prominent. All the best!
